I’ve seen this movie more than a dozen times and never realized this stuff.
tbf I usually was high af and it took me more than 3x watching to even understand the plot

    3. I’ve seen this movie SO many times, and the only ones I knew about were the baby doll and gorilla. Maybe because I have it on VHS and the quality is pretty grainy

The first time I saw this movie in the theater, I was with a large group of people. Half of them hated it and left halfway through it and I was like What, this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.

The stuff in their hotel room is stuff I just figured they pilfered. Ive been on benders and woke up with stuff I don’t remember grabbing. The big gorilla though stands out as extraordinary. Moving that thing seems like something you’d remember.

    6. Are we sure re-using props is really an intentional choice to accentuate surreality, and not just a choice to save money?

The book is pretty clear about their cavalier attitude towards taking things. Our instinct is to regard our hero as an unreliable narrator. While we get fragments of memories interspersed here and there the fact that they clearly reflect the events of the film it’s suggested that everything happened as written. Gilliam seems to allow those concentric circles. The gorilla statue, for example looks, like it just magically appears in the desert but it’s also been vandalized so one of them may very well have stolen it and dropped it off in the desert.

Alex McDowell, the production designer, is a mad genius and paired with Terry Gilliam we got this masterpiece

    9. >which highlights the surreal atmosphere of the film

mmm, i think it’s to show they were out-of-control and stealing shit

This is quite possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen in my life so I definitely didn’t notice.

I wasn’t aware of that, but I was also tripping on shrooms the few times I have seen it.

    12. It’s also a big tripping thing to just grab random objects and decide they’re yours now lol

    13. This probably would’ve been the one post that would benefit from those red circles

This is probably well known, but the poster in the background of image 3 is from when HST ran for sherrif in CO (the fist with 2 thumbs kind of became his logo).
