I hate that we're at this point in the discourse. I wish this new generation of filmmaking talent could just be celebrated rather than torn down. The backseat-directing conspiracy theories are insane. It should be a testament to Parsons' talent that so many established directors wanted to produce this movie. Let their work speak for itself! Anyway, I'm very excited to see this on Thursday.

Is this one of those articles based on one random’s tweet?
That guy who was trolling is absolutely laughing his ass off that he rattled the cage enough to get an industry article written over it.
tale as old as time. In the 70s and 80s there was always an “overseer” who allegedly did all the work behind the scenes. 90s brought in the term “ghost directing”, and the trend has continued to today diminishing the work of young directors.
edit: redditors have poor reading comprehension
“social media users”
Don’t platform bullshit.
Literally had this exact exchange on this sub yesterday. People really believe that because he talked to other directors, that someone shadow directed it.
It’s pure jealousy.

Tobe hooper went through the same shit over poltergeist, a film he unquestionably directed. People need to realize they don’t know shit about the process unless they’re literally on set and should shut the fuck up.
Amazing that a nobody from a social media platform makes a no evidence claim and it passes some sort of smell test. He makes a claim and it must be true. No evidence required
I can only imagine the sort of boorish conjecture that would have happened in the 70s and 90s when indie filmmakers were thriving.
These are passion projects that take a lot of sacrifice. You always listen to advice, but ultimately these indie directors know what they want and a good idea how to get it. Factor in the YouTube generation that has grown up learning how to shoot content on their own, the only real hurdles are stupid social media perception and the economy of scale.
It all comes down to jealousy or feelings of one’s own inadequacies when young people achieve “more” than those naysayers. And some just can’t keep their misguided shame and idiocy to themselves.
It’s weird the gate keeping with directing. Young actors, writers, musicians are celebrated but it’s like we demand directors be what? At least 30? Who cares, there are those in their 50s that have directing experience and make shit movies
Are they claiming these young directors also had someone else directing all of their short films and other work? It’s not like they’re straight out of film school with zero working experience. We need to stop listening to internet trolls and making articles about what they say online.
Verna Fields arguably saved Jaws with her editing prowess when it was directed by a 27yo Spielberg… Yet it’s still defined as a Spielberg film.
Of course young people have mentors – that’s how technical arts are handed down through generations. Doesn’t make it “shadow directing”
Guy makes one film.
Let’s judge whether its good or not before tarnishing the entire guys career.
