Many players, including Coco Gauff, cut short their French Open news conference to 15-minutes to protest the share of revenue generated that is allocated to prize money. The limit is meant to symbolise the 15% of revenue the French Open offers compared to 22% at other ATP and WTA events.
I’m sure that the French media will have a polite, civilized reaction to a female POC athlete protesting.
pie-oh on
This reminds me of the WNBA movement we saw recently. The men had a 50% revenue agreement. The women were also on something minuscule like this. (They’re still not near the 50%.)
You can’t have tournaments without the players. You can argue the same for the event organizers. But the draw is the players, and the organizers are definitely not 75% of what makes it good.
