True survival horror is getting to the midpoint of Resident Evil: CODE Veronica (video game for the Sega Dreamcast) and realizing you’ve squandered your resources and mismanaged your save files. And you are now stuck with a Tyrant monster on the open hangar of a flying plane, a close-quarters boss fight. Progress is all but impossible.

(Such exhilarations cannot be precisely replicated in the movies. Medium-specific. Closest equivalent might be a sudden Sopranos-esque cut to black because the hero forgot to pick up ammo and green herbs a few miles back.)

hmmm, i get the idea. but for me, resident evil always felt like part of it are the characters you play and encounter through the game. this looks interesting and might become a good movie, but i really don’t see (yet?) why it needs to have the resident evil franchise.

    3. Looks like they just slapped Resident Evil on it so the studio can maintain the rights to the IP

    4. Okay, nice cool, not gonna watch any more content about this.
See you at the theater my friends, stay calm and survive.

This is the smart move. If you make your movie about Leon Kennedy, you’re locked in to that character. Video game protagonists function differently than other mediums, they’re built for immersion and minimalist storytelling.

If you’re faithful, you end up with a character that feels off, like the recent Mario movies. If you turn them into a more standard movie protagonist, people will complain. Either way, your rendition will never be as good, so why not start fresh?

HORROR. not comedy. i’d rather it be horror action than horror comedy like weapons was.

It boggles my MIND that any resident evil fan could look at this and think negative after how the series has been handled regarding live action stuff. This looks FANTASTIC. Love that it’s putting a regular dude in that situation and very gamified way he gets through the world, getting new weapons unlocked etc. Most exciting gaming live action adaptation for a long long time for me.

Movies realistically portraying inexperienced people with firearms – sign me up everytime.

    9. Suggest any fans watch Hokum. My wife and I separately thought a portion of the movie was playing out like an RE game.
