Justice for Zola!!!
I didn’t finish Anora bc I found it boring so I can’t say too much about that movie.
Had the delight of seeing Annapurna Sriram‘s debut feature film at NewFest last year. Highly recommend for the humor, vision, and refusal to condescend.
Anora was painfully bad. It deserves the criticism.
Am glad we hear the actually opinions from sex workers their opinions matter to how on they are portrayed in media

I feel vindicated because I never understood the Anora success. It was such a shallow and boring movie but people praised it to no end!
I love how in the post itself it says “It received negative feedback from the sex worker community mostly for the way it played off the violence they face as comedy” but they still included it 🙄
I really don’t like how this movie became the mainstream go-to movie about sex work for this generation, especially given the guy behind it.
I would never pin Anora for a SW film. And yes I agree it was really bad I couldn’t finish it.
Out of genuine curiosity, how do sex workers feel about tangerine and Florida project?
Zola is way better than Anora.
How Anora won those Oscar’s I’ll never know. Bunch of weirdo male Academy voters I guess.
