      >Underworld star Kate Beckinsale has been set to lead Twilight of the Dead, the long gestating “final chapter” of George A. Romero’s classic zombie saga.

      >The horror project, which has buy-in from the Romero estate, has recently undergone a facelift with new cast, director and financiers. Beckinsale takes over from Milla Jovovich. Additional casting is in process.

      >The film will be “set on a decimated earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat”.

I genuinely wonder what a movie like this could offer anymore. The genre was already fading from relevance in 2009, and the cliches have cliches.

The original trilogy was important because of it’s layered social commentary, innovative make up and gore effects, and because it was effective horror.

Return of the Living Dead was punk rock, and the second one was okay, but all dreck after that.

Land of the Dead was pretty good, but not really inspired. Diary of the Dead was also good, playing on the found footage genre of that era, which added back in some of the social commentary.

This synopsis just sounds like more of the same. Maybe I’m missing something. Thoughts on how this could actually be original and worth making beyond cashing in on the name?

She seems to be putting out a lot of B-movies coming up here soon. She broke or something?

      >The Paz Brothers, Doron and Yoav Paz, whose movies include *The Golem* and *Plan A*, have been tapped to direct the movie, taking over from Brad Anderson.

I’m not gonna pretend like Brad Anderson is currently at his peak, but this feels like a big downgrade. DTV horror movie vibes in the choice of directors.

All the other times of day been done? I look forward to brunch of the dead.

    6. At one time, Romero was working on a zombie rock musical with Jim Sharman (Rocky Horror). This was before Land came along. Would have been interesting, for sure.

I’m actually excited for this. I love Romero and I feel like this is taking me back to 2009 for some reason.

    8. I wanna see Selene arriving to kick some zombie ass, only to find Bill Nighy leading them as double-undead zombie Viktor.
