It’s a fun show. Not anything special but I got a few laughs out of it. It’s nice to see Steve Carell in a Michael Scott’ish role again.

Plus it sounds like they want to get the next season out in under a year which is great.

So Veep and Girls never crossed Sex and the City viewership records? Crazy!!

Bill Lawrence out here making the comfiest TV around. Really enjoyed the season but wish there was just something a bit extra to it.

I feel like the show needs a disruptor.

It’s HBO’s version of Shrinking. I’m enjoying it but it’s nothing special.

Ummm…it’s not funny. Aside from the moments with John C. McGinley, the show feels like one long setup with no punchline. That’s 6.5 million people who fell asleep or are cleaning with background noise.

    6. Hung was so long ago too. I was 21 when it aired and am pushing 40 now.

Crazy how little comedies are featured on HBO. I do miss Curb.

      Couldn’t get into Rooster.

I’m enjoying it a lot, so kinda surprised by these comments. That being said I just kinda vibe with Lawrence’s humor. Scrubs, Shrinking, Lasso, etc

We just finished it last night. Actually quite enjoyed it. Not amazing but good characters and some solid comedic performances and chemistry.

Like with most things, I never realized a thing I like is terrible until I go to Reddit.

    10. It’s such a great show.

Now is it as ‘deep’ as say Breaking Bad or all the heavy dramas that get all the attention? Of course not.

But for a comedy, it’s incredibly well done, everyone in it is great, the stories are good, it’s sweet, and it’s funny.

It’s comfort TV, but GOOD comfort tv at the same time.

Also on a side note, I always thought Steve Carell was a bit of a one-note, somewhat shallow actor, but this role was almost built for him (and maybe he’s also just getting better at his job too.) He’s great in it.

    11. Was Hung a hit? I never really heard much about it and I don’t know anyone who watched it.

I didn’t realize that Hung got such good ratings. It seems like it’s almost completely forgotten about now.

    13. I mean, good for the show, but starting to get tired of the “How Older Xer Got Their Groove Back” genre

Much more people have HBO now than when sex and city and hung was airing, people just watched on cable tv live when was airing, now we have streaming services

I think it’s a lot of fun. Not brilliant, but very amusing. John C McGinley as the college president is amazing.

Maybe it resonates well for me because I worked in academia for many years.

This is a great show with great characters but very little plot. I’m sure they will build it out in season 2, but every character is funny, but there’s not much happening to them.

Wild. I’m a biggest HBO fan boy around, and I pretty much liked or loved everything Bill Lawrence ever done, but I tapped out after 2 episodes of this.

    18. Too “classic sitcom” for my taste. Every time i watch i know its new but it feels like something ive already seen 1000 times.

I’m not sure why so many people are just referring to this show as ‘decent’. I’ve seen plenty of decent shows and this is definitely waaay better. Sure it’s not groundbreaking and the story is fairly straightforward, but it is still much much better than the ‘average’ show from both a character and writing perspective
