I know the movie only adapted a quarter of the novel but I’m just gonna say it: there is no way this will ever top the movie. James Dean was iconic.

It’s crazy that Zoe Kazan is helming this after her grandfather Elia made the iconic 1955 original.

Zoe Kazan’s writing is my biggest reason to check this out.

Quite a difficult adaptation to tackle. Hearing Cathy’s name gave me goosebumps

I’m a massive fan of the book – I love how they are focusing on a different perspective here rather than just the brothers

Ugh. Looks like they’re gonna make Cathy some misunderstood victim and not the narcissistic psycho she really was.

It will be very hard to do the book justice. The book covers like 3 generations and a ton of characters

Really think Florence Pugh will be the perfect Cathy. I’m so excited for this!!!!

I mean, no offence to anyone, but check how the og Kazan adaptation looks and then check this. What are we doing? What’s going on?

why does this seem like a film about cathy being a misunderstood feminist figure

I forget Florence is British sometimes because of how many non-British accent characters she plays

One of the greatest novels. i sure hope they get Cathy right. She’s one of the most terrible monsters in lit I’ve come across.

No character has ever lodged themselves in my heart the way Samuel Hamilton managed in East of Eden. I don’t think I could bare to watch any version of East of Eden because no actor could measure up to my expectations of him.
Having said that, it seems very bizarre to make Cathy the POV character as this trailer seems to. She is an important character but she disappears for long stretches of the book.

I read Wuthering heights, pride and prejudice, and east of eden for the first time in the last 6 months if they announce an adaptation of Crime and Punishment and Don Quixote I’m gonna freak the fuck out.

The point can be argued, but *East of Eden* might be the greatest American novel ever written. To call it a masterwork from Steinbeck is underselling just how incredible and important the book is. Chapter Three alone, which focuses on the relationship between Aaron and Caleb might be the single best chapter of American fiction ever written.
I say this to say: if you are going to tackle one of the best works of fiction ever put to paper, you really need to bring the goods. I sincerely hope this is wonderful, but it is an extremely tall task to live up to.

I cannot express how much I hate this book/story. I like Florence Pugh a lot, but I’ll be skipping this. The world is shitty enough.
