“I physically participated in the making of this movie and they didn’t even credit me” — Yeah I’d get it.

“They were inspired broadly by my exotic looks when they created that character” — Difficult to sell. Where does it end?

Unless she’s blue and 9 feet tall I’m not sure what kind of case she has here

Good thing for her the Avatar movies didn’t do extensive motion-capture work that was intended to bring both performance and likeness to the characters from the performers.

    4. this is a crock bullshit. how pathetic she is going after cameron and disney for this after the fact.

its even more obvious since they are adding in California’s recently enacted deepfake pornography statute in the lawsuit, saying cameron and disney violated the NEW statute, over something that was done BEFORE DEEPFAKES were even a thing. holy shit the delusion. sounds like someone is just after money.

Cameron could stand to be a bit more tight lipped about what inspires him. He once referenced the sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison when talking about Terminator, which caused Ellison to sue for a piece of the Terminator pie

    6. I’m going to comment what I’ve already said in another thread.

      >I just cannot see this going anywhere. Cameron admits using her LOWER face as inspiration for Neytiri’s concept art. But in the final version, Neytiri is wholly based on Zoe Saldana. So in the end, none of her likeness was used. Just look at how [Neytiri’s face](https://youtu.be/M1THgqww8QU?t=74) evolved over the course of development.

Honestly, I think this lawsuit is ridiculous. Artists have always pulled bits and pieces from real people when they’re sketching or designing characters. There’s a huge difference between straight-up copying someone’s face without their permission and just using certain features as inspiration.

    7. I’ve seen this story a lot the past few days but I’ve let to see the images

Lots of people jumping to conclusions in the comments instead of just reading the legal filing. Cameron is literally quoted in the complaint saying “The actual source for this was a photo in the L.A. Times, a young actress named Q’orianka Kilcher. This is actually her…her lower face. She had a very interesting face.” If anything she should be entitled to credit / compensation from one of the most successful franchises of all time. People defending this shit as if Disney wont be the ones covering the legal costs (which would be pennies for them)

Neytiri looks nothing like the actress or Pocahontas in Terrence Malick’s film. Neytiri looks like Zoe.

    10. This honestly sounds like a massive reach. The fact it took her until last year to make the connection after the movies had been out fir 16 years says a lot. Hell, the article mentions that she was invited on set for the 1st movie with Cameron mentioning that she inspired the characters. This feels like a cash grab, sets a weird precedent.

    11. I hope she wins, even if the inspiration was so minuscule they thought it wasn’t worth mentioning, she deserves credit.

      Fuck Disney.
