When developing a quiet, emotionally grounded film, how do you know when a scene needs silence instead of dialogue?

Hi John, I am a fan of your work on Past Lives and Umbrella Academy. For Past Lives, was Arthur being based on Justin Kuritzkes something you knew during production or after? If during, did you ever meet him to get a feel for the character, and did you ever see the Potion Seller video beforehand?

Hi John and Cole, thanks for joining us!

Cole – The film looks amazing. How did you land John for your directorial debut?

John – If you could have dinner or lunch with one director or actor/actress that is no longer with us to pick their brain for a few hours, who would you choose?

    5. I loved seeing a screening of the film in Omaha last week, thank you both so much for making the trip. I especially enjoyed the music choices and the original score. How did you come to partner with Christopher Bear on this project and can we expect the score to release sometime soon?

I was fortunate enough to watch this, and it is such a quiet, beautiful, and, at times, harrowing family journey. The family dynamics are ever present on screen throughout the film. How did you all approach building those family dynamics off screen and do you feel like those translated in the ways you hoped to what was shown onscreen?

I watched Omaha last year at Sundance online and it was one of my favorite 2025 movies. I’m curious how much of the kids’ interactions are scripted vs. unscripted?

    9. Hi John! Huge fan of your work! When shooting Past Lives, what was your process for building a performance that feels so lived-in and specific—especially in scenes where the emotion isn’t ‘announced’?
