    > “I feel like you get a realistic view,” Streep replied. “I think we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now. We got the villains and we got the good guys, and it’s so boring.”

Just because I feel like plenty of people actually aren’t going to read the article and just assume what “Marvel-ize” means, she’s saying it in terms of movies that have very black and white views on what is “good” and what is “bad”

  3. also the youtubization of the cinematography because what the hell is that thumbnail.

She’s right. I’m concerned that so many people cannot comprehend the concept of morally ambiguous characters. They want the protagonist to be 100% good and get mad when they do anything questionable.

Obviously. This sentiment comes too little too late, not that the opinions of high profile actors would have ever stopped Marvel’s terrible rise and the dilution of big budget cinema’s value.

I wish more of them had stuck to their principles though and not become part of it: I have to assume Meryl Streep wasn’t one, but could be wrong.

She’s right, like so many others have pointed out before her. But it’s on the talent, the writers, the producers and marketers to counter it and get bums on seat in the cinema.

What I think is gas is the still that’s used as part of this post shows another issue , colour grading , everything is so grey now , something needs to be done , someone needs to be bold and push back.

  7. Her version of what is considered ‘Marvel-izing’ is weird. She says we got the villains and good guys, and that’s boring.

That’s not a Marvel thing at all. Action movies have always had a clear good guy and bad guy. Western movies have had a clear good guy and bad guy. She’s blaming Marvel for something Marvel didn’t even create

  8. “Marvel-izing” isn’t the word I’d use (more like “moral absolutism”), but she’s not wrong. However, with media literacy at an alarming low, we do still need those movies. Because a lot of viewers really need a blinking neon sign to say “The nazis are bad”.

  9. Seems quite hypocritical to say such a thing (though correct) when this is from an interview for Devil Wears Prada 2 – A cash-grab sequel, with predefined good/bad characters.

  10. I hate Super Hero movies but Streep hasn’t had a good performance since Adaptation.

  11. Marvel literally released a movie about a morally ambiguous super hero team recently 😒

  12. What the hell is going on with Anna Hathaway specifically in the photo here…. can we stop with the over-processing of shit.

How about “DCing” like your costar. Don’t get old on us Meryl.

  14. Specifically what she’s talking about has ALWAYS been very common in mainstream movies. Not even all Marvel properties are cleanly good vs evil, though that is a common juxtaposition. I’d be willing to be that if there’s a bit more of this now than I don’t know, 20-30 years ago, it’s just ebbing and flowing.

Oh come on, Marvel had been doing ambiguous heroes and villains for years and years now

such a tired take. All respect to Streep but there are more great films now than ever and the BS is easily avoidable.

She’s right. I really miss the balls to the wall excitement of movies like *August: Osage County*, *The Hours*, and *The Bridges of Madison County*.

Funny, considering she’s saying this while promoting a sequel that completely cancels any ounce of villainy in her character along with her co-stars, who suddenly became angels

What’s ruining movies is constant remakes and biopics of every artist under the sun.
