Christopher Nolan Confirms ‘The Odyssey’ Runtime is Shorter Than ‘Oppenheimer’ and Says There’s a Massive Amount of Pressure to Create a Strong and Sincere Interpretation

Nolan:

>”There’s a massive amount of pressure. Anyone taking on The Odyssey is taking on the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere and that comes with a huge responsibility.”

>Nolan added that he had come away from his The Dark Knight Trilogy with an understanding of what people want from a film such as The Odyssey.

>”What I learned from that experience is that what people want from a movie about a beloved story, a beloved set of characters, is they want a strong and sincere interpretation. They want to know that a filmmaker has gone to the mat for it. I really tried to make the best film possible.”

For reference, Oppenheimer was 3 hours long

I genuinely don’t know how you do the Odyssey in a movie. It has a massive time span, covers dozens of locations, has Gods, monsters, weird creatures, a primary and a secondary cast who are all doing things. Magic, witches, giants, sirens, cyclopses, the underworld and all of that isn’t everything.

I like Nolan, I believe he’ll do his best, but I don’t know that anyone could do the Odyssey justice in a single movie. 

I’m also ready to be proven wrong 

honestly a sub-3 hour runtime for a literal greek epic like the odyssey is pretty surprising. really curious how he’s gonna condense a 10 year journey without the pacing feeling completely rushed tbh.

I absolutely cannot wait to watch odysseus fight a giant cyclops while his dialogue is completely drowned out by deafening foghorn noises and extreme brass music lmao. peak cinema incoming dude.
