It’s honestly a reasonable take, not that the fourth is bad, I quite like it, but it upsets the flow I feel

I still think of it as a trilogy plus an additional movie (that I have never watched). I don’t understand why people think something can be “ruined” by a remake or a sequel. No one is forcing you to watch it.

100% agree. The fourth movie is cute, but didn’t feel like Toy Story, just an extremely prolonged epilogue. Buzz and Jessie, arguably woody’s co-leads, barely had any lines or character development and WAY WAY WAY too much focus was given to idiotic Forky.

Edit: I see folks love forky. Yeah, he’s occasionally funny, but making him the *focus* of the whole film was a strange choice (to me!). Plus the way woody and buzz say goodbye just felt wrong and rushed.

  4. I disagree, i feel like part 3 was the first misstep in the franchise, the first 2 are perfect though

“Has there ever been a Part 3 that’s better than the first two?”

    Nightmare on Elm Street.

I think most people deeply into film would agree. The original Toy Story trilogy is unparalleled in both the quality and story progression. I cannot think of a more solid trilogy.

  7. I cry at that part too!! Also, when the mom says, “i wish I could always be with you.” And when Woody says goodbye to Andy. 😭😭😭

They should’ve just ended with the third one but of course corporate greed had to say otherwise

I was saying the same thing to someone this week. I don’t consider #4 to be canon.

Toy Story 4 was awesome. Is the real problem that a lot of people cannot count past the number 3?

  11. The way I see it, the third Toy Story was about death and the fourth one was about retirement. We’re all gonna die but retirement is magical and worth celebrating.

I feel like I would quite enjoy just watching these two talk about films, love them both.

    Wasn’t this Tarantino’s same take?

Anyway, no this is wrong. Toy Story explores the question “what if toys were alive” and nails it, Toy Story 2 explores the question “what if toys were alive and their owners outgrew them” and nails it.

No other Toy Story made after those has asked a new question, Toy Story needed no sequels.

I’d say Ocean’s Thirteen was one of the few third movies that was better than the sequel.
