Was there anywhere they could logically go with it once The Boys finishes?

Granted I still think “Vought Rising” is unnecessary.

  2. i mean they will bring the main cast to boys season 5 finale arc and have a big finale so i wasnt expecting we re getting another season.

Not surprising but also feels like wasted potential after how good S1 was and how much it set up the main show’s endgame.

  4. Yeah, I’m not surprised. There really wasn’t anywhere left to go with the premise. I liked season 1 a lot and parts of season 2.

  5. Aww man this sucks. I loved Gen V, think they messed up by not including the characters from Gen V in The Boys more than they did

  6. Yeah, doesn’t really surprise me. Season 1 was better than a lot of the main show, but I totally lost interest midway through season 2. I really think they handled Chance Perdomo’s death extremely poorly.

I’m down for Rising though, I’d watch Jensen Ackles paint a wall and it’d be pretty fun.

I don’t see a way we could’ve gotten season 3. Season 2 ended with a connection to the boys finale, so a sequel afterwards wouldn’t make sense.

Quality of S2 aside, it wouldn’t work anyways.

  8. Maybe if we all write a check for $100 to them they will change their minds. You all go ahead… I’m just looking for my pen.

  9. Gen v characters not being fully integrated in newest season of Boys defeated the purpose.

Wait, wasn’t there an announcement of a renewal for the third season already or did I mandela effect this?

  11. I have to imagine a main cast member tragically passing away between seasons probably had a large impact on this decision.

Great. I liked Gen V, but I thought Season 2 was the perfect ending for it, tying its plot the main series.

  13. I got worried when it never charted on Nielsen, and even more so when a third season wasn’t announced after a few weeks.

I absolutely love The Boys and am glad it is ending on a high note. Season 2 of Gen V had considerably less hype and despite the amazing villain just wasn’t as good as the main show.

Still a little surprised nonetheless. Even this final season of The Boys doesn’t have people talking the way they used to a couple years back. Too bad really.

At least we still have Reacher. That’s peak action all around. Hope it goes on for another decade.

  14. Makes me wonder if the ending of the boys will make it impossible to have a season 3 of gen v

    >”While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” said Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg, executive producers of the Vought Cinematic Universe. “You’ll see them again.”

Godolkin University was always a completely hamfisted (?) addition to The Boys universe and it was made worse by being handled with the famed subtlety that these writers are known for.

I thought S2 Gen V was already pushing the lore.

Given how intricately tied the plot was with the main series, it makes sense why it doesn’t need a S3.

Huh. I just assumed it was a 2 season thing anyway leading into the final season of the main show. Hopefully there’s going to be some sort of closure this season

I was definitely under the impression that it was more of a filler and way to introduce secondary cast for the main show than something that was intended to go on indefinitely on its own.

That makes sense because the showrunners seem to be having enough trouble imagining the world outside of the central characters in the Boys. A 3rd season of Gen V would theoretically take place after the finale of the Boys and I don’t think they are capable of imagining a satisfying or logical way to portray the world after the death of Homelander and the collapse of atleast some parts of Vought. Too complicated of a story for most people to tell much less these writers.

  21. I thought Gen V was a 2 season thing this whole time lol.

I mean, they aren’t going back to the college.

And it ended leading up to the Boys finale which I’m assuming will be a good way to close up the universe. Hence why the Vaught Rising show is a prequel.

That kind of makes sense. It’s still pretty disappointing, but logically there’s no reason to go with a third season of Gen V if they win against Vought in the main show’s finale. If that’s where the main story ends, then idk why the spinoff would try to make new content.

Oh man. I hope they don’t cancel Fallout. I didn’t see this coming at all so now I’m just praying they don’t cancel Fallout cause it’s like my favorite show rn.

  24. ThreeTreesForTheePls on

It’s still really funny to me that a show that pride: itself on being a satire of modern culture, turned out to be exactly that.

It mocked superhero shows that were sunshine and rainbows, no danger, even with a giant action piece? Okay cool because that has been The Boys since season 3.

A take on Hollywood and corporate greed, diversifying shows to apply to more markets like they did for all of those The Seven movies? Well that’s cool because we’re 5 seasons into the boys, with a 2 season and cancelled spinoff, and another spinoff planned for next year.

Im happy to see this show to its end, but I really do wonder how much this show would’ve been improved by making it a 3 season show with 1-2 more episodes per season.

  25. It is odd it got canceled because it had good reviews on imdb. Maybe it wasn’t as popular as the main show?

  26. tylerthe-theatre on

That seriously sucks, fun show. Wonder if they didnt know where to go with it

  27. The only good part of season 2 was Hamish Linklater’s portrayal of Cipher and they ruined that by swapping him for Ariana Grande’s twink boyfriend and then killed them both off unceremoniously anyway.

The Marie and her Sister shit was SO bad, their acting was some of the worst I’ve ever seen.

So yeah this isn’t a huge loss. Wouldn’t mind seeing Cate and Polarity again though. Hell bring em all in and have Homelander kill them. Give us some proper stakes.

  28. badfortheenvironment on

Disappointing. As far as I was concerned, Gen V was better than The Boys (at least lately).

  29. phantom_avenger on

I’m confused, didn’t they already renew this show for a third season? I’m not sure how TV productions work, but if a new season for a show has officially been ordered don’t they have to deliver on it and there are no take backs?

  30. Narratively after all is said and through I just left feel like they fumbled the bag. They tried to have it both ways as a spinoff, not letting it just do its own thing just existing in the same world, instead hyping up this big “the person who can take down homelander” plot but then not really doing anything with that or with any of the relatively interesting characters they set up either. Just feels a bit wasted
