It got her some kind of a large income and useless materials but what else? Everyone hates her. Nobody even respects her. All she became is a lonely, miserable, pathetic, self-loathing, growth-stunted woman who's turned into an empty vessel for whoever wants to abuse her. It took a massive middle finger toward the "James Bond" or "Jason Bourne" lifestyle and showed us how unglamorous and unfulfilling the life of an assassin really is. Particularly a villainous one.

you could just watch godfather 2 for the exact same idea you’re describing but way better
I never watched the last season because I heard it was absolutely horrible, but I liked the love story that it seem to be.
No mention of the childhood brutalities that set her life path.
Perfect example of a show that should’ve ended with s1
god they fucked this show up so bad. It was already falling apart in Season 2. I did not continue after that. A shame.
Now now, Bourne had a great life with someone he loved partner. He was out of the game but they kept pulling him back in. We could use Bourne and the Equalizer to set our world right. But James Bond? That dude / dudette can go suck eggs. And the Mission Impossible person too
Everyone hates Villanelle because she’s a loathsome human being with no redeeming qualities. The show has to make her lonely and sad sometimes to manipulate the audience into forgiving her amoral selfish behavior.
Despite what it became?
What does that even mean?
I think you are missing that she’s an actual psychopath.
Thats got far more to do with her human interactions than anything else
It gets funnier when you think about how reality is quite the opposite of that. IRL villains as well as bullies usually seem to have the most fulfilling lives, particularly around people who simply do not know the full extent of what they’ve done in the past.
They’re using their illgotten gains to create an advantage, which allows them in turn to create a wholesome standard of living. Get the money, nice and unsuspecting family, friends, etc. I think its the victims of these people who end up living miserable lives, but usually not the villains.
