“The Man I Love” is set in the vibrant era of late ’80s New York and tells the story of Jimmy George, an actor dying of AIDS, who takes on what may be his last great role. Filled with music, color and passion, the drama paints a picture of a group of artists and friends for whom creativity has become a form of survival. Sachs and longtime collaborator Mauricio Zacharias co-wrote the script.

He experiences… what now?
A gay aids movie about mortality; talk about critic bait.
I’m sorry this movie sounds horrible. I’m sure it will do well at festivals and will win several awards, but not many people are going watch this movie. This honestly sounds like filmmakers making a movie by trying to check all the right boxes v making a movie about a character trying to survive with HIV.
Make a movie like *Philadelphia* or *Dallas Buyers Club*, which obviously have characters living with HIV. But those movies more importantly tell a story which creates a conversation within this sphere. *The Man I love* sounds like critic, festival and award bait.
We need a moratorium on gay AIDS movies set in the 80’s. We have stripped that mine bare, there is nothing left.
Also Rami Malik DOUBLE-DIPPING on music movies where he plays a gay guy with AIDS.
That tagline made my taint curl.
‘Peter Hujar’s Day’ was superb. I’m really, really looking forward to this one.
What a pretentious description.
Sounds a bit like “a little life” which is probably my most hated read ever
I think Rami Malek is going to do a great job here, since I think he excels at more internal, tragic/painful scripts.
And I love the late 80s from a design sense, so I’ll be looking forward to the production design and music.
No thanks
Regardless of the fact that the premise of AIDS America in the 1980s has been documented in several LGBTQ films and shows already, I’m always going to support these stories and won’t pass judgement until I’ve actually seen the film.
I have no clue how this dude gets work. Must have an uncle in the biz.
It kind of sounds like the director wanted to adapt ‘A Little Life’ but was too scared.
Rami Malek is so good in Mr. Robot and so underwhelming elsewhere. I really hope this works for him.
Wow that sounds like a nice uplifting movie and not something that will sap my will to live
I wonder if any aids movie will ever touch on hemophiliacs getting aids from tainted blood and treated the same as gay people were
Hasn’t Ira Sachs already made this film before?
Rami? Im in
I still can’t believe that he was barley a side character in NFS movie way back when, stripped down to his birthday suite and quit his job. And now, his literally an Oscar winning actor who has made some incredible films / one TV show in his career.
Honestly, it’s fucking incredible.
That’s a man hand
That’s a man hand ✋
Sounds like a real laff riot
Vomit
