mean streets is such a classic, the way it captures that gritty NYC vibe is unmatched. scorsese really set the bar high with this one.

  2. it’s a great watch, introducing de niro in a scorcese movie in their first collaboration together

  3. It just occurred to me, but Harvey Keitel and De Niro weren’t in a Film together again until Copland?

What Mean Streets did that nobody talks about enough is use music as interior monologue. The songs aren’t soundtrack, they’re how Charlie experiences the world. Scorsese basically invented a grammar for that and every music-driven film since owes it something.
