NASA’s Artemis II has successfully launched from Kennedy Space Center, sending astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch & Jeremy Hansen into space where they’ll begin their lunar fly-around, the first crewed flight to the moon since 1972.
The crew will travel in a figure-eight trajectory, looping out from Earth, around the Moon, and back again.
> Four astronaut crew will travel around the moon for 10 days and are set to travel the farthest humans have ever gone.
> The four-person crew **will not land on the moon** but rather perform a lunar flyby, looping around the moon’s far side before returning to Earth. At its core, Artemis Il is a systems validation mission.
> NASA will use the flight to test the Orion spacecraft’s life support systems, navigation, communication links and overall performance in deep space with a crew on board – conditions that cannot be fully replicated on Earth.
> **If successful, Artemis Il will pave the way for Artemis I!!, a crewed low Earth orbit mission; then Artemis IV, which aims to land astronauts on the moon;** and future missions that could establish a sustained human presence beyond Earth.

Congrats to the crew launching them and congrats to the astronauts; I love space travel.
NASA has done a lot for us (your phone, meteorology, computer technology, Hubble, etc), I’m always so happy when they’re successful.

This absolutely terrifies me, I can’t imagine ever wanting to do this. It’s seriously cool though and I hope all goes well.

My five-year-old daughter has said she wants to be an astronaut. Her seeing the only female on board was amazing to watch. I told her that it could be her one day. I took a picture of her watching it in case it does happen and I can show my local news that picture when they interview me. LOL
