The greatest thing about the left is not even the left can tolerate being around them or even acknowledge they are the left. Being completely insufferable benefits everyone. The sanctimony doesn’t penetrate.
She’s leaving out some pretty important context here. Susan Sarandon was dropped by her agency after making comments about Jewish people that a lot of folks saw as ignorant and offensive. When she got called out, she tried to walk it back in that classic “I can’t be biased, I quoted something Jewish!” kind of way, which only made things worse.
That’s not really different from what happened with Roseanne Barr: say something widely seen as bigoted, face backlash, and then attempt a clumsy backpedal.
And it’s not just that one incident either. Sarandon has boosted people like Jackson Hinkle, pushed pro-Russia narratives around Ukraine, and previously downplayed Assad’s role in killing civilians during Syria’s civil war. She’s also supported Code Pink, a group that has even endorsed Marjorie Taylor Greene, which adds to the broader pattern of the kinds of alliances and positions she’s chosen.
So when she frames this as “Hollywood punishing dissent,” it feels a lot more like a pattern of controversial and inflammatory positions catching up with her rather than some sudden crackdown on free speech.
Corporate America is no one’s friend. Their pandering to left causes LGBTQ+, BLM and other minority group charities are exposed as pure hypocrisy when you see the receipts that they donated to Republican politicians. They do more harm to those vulnerable communities than they do good. They might as well be intentionally adding in minimum token representation to add a target for far-right people to harass them.

This country has shifted so far to the right that our idea of “left” is extremely skewed. If anyone thinks Hollywood is “left” because of superficial stances on identity politics that they profit over and some celebs wore pins on their exorbitantly expensive costume at their flashy masterbatory awards ceremonies, then they are not well versed enough in the political spectrum. Hollywood has not EVER been left, the are one of the most capitalistic institutions ever built it’s never been about “art and storytelling” its always been about profit and exploitation.
Maybe she suffered consequences because she’s an Assadist who said that she wanted Trump to win in 2016 in order to accelerate a working-class populist revival.
