Hi Reddit!
We’re Grace Glowicki and Ben Petrie: filmmakers, actors, and longtime collaborators. We’re here to talk about our horny gothic DEAD LOVER and anything else you want!
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYWuLpEyWqA
LOGLINE: When a stinky gravedigger’s lover drowns at sea, her attempts to bring him back result in grave consequences and unlikely love.
This is Grace’s sophomore feature film, following up her debut Tito, which won the Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Award in 2019. We were also recently featured in Honey Bunch, and Ben’s directorial debut The Heirloom. Other recent acting projects include Strawberry Mansion, BlackBerry, Booger, and Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie.
After playing Sundance, SXSW, TIFF and a bunch of other festivals, we’re excited to be bringing the movie to theaters. Select screenings will be playing in GLORIOUS STINK-O-VISION, inspired by John Water’s ODORAMA scratch-n-sniff experience.
The film was shot on a blackbox stage in a german expressionism style, with only four actors (Grace & Ben, Leah Doz, and Lowen Morrow) playing all characters via clever disguise!
Ask us anything! We will both be back at 3 PM ET to answer questions.

Horny Gothic. I have all the answers I need.
this sounds wild, like a perfect blend of quirky horror and romance. how did you come up with the idea behind the film?
Hi Grace and Ben, thanks for joining us 🙂
What was your favorite film festival to attend with the film? Any cool moments/highlights from the festival run?
Just saw the trailer, not a question but wishing you the best of luck, reminds me of a clockwork orange , glad to see people keeping cult films alive
Caught this at IFFR! What’s your co-writing process like?
What was the hardest part about making this film?
How does your collaboration work? Do you come up with the main idea together, or does one person come up with the idea and work on it on their own, and then the other helps to improve it?
According to Wikipedia, you’re also married, or a couple. How does that affect your work?
The vibe I get from the trailer that Dead Lover is inspired by horror movies from 1920s-1950s. Any specific films you got special inspiration from?
Saw this at TIFF midnight madness! What a fun time.
What’s been your favourite reaction to the film so far? And what do you expect from a more “normie” general audience? (non film festival)
Hi 👋
As longtime collaborators, how do you handle creative disagreements without killing the energy of a project?
Stink-O-Vision? My sinuses aren’t ready for a movie about a “stinky gravedigger” in high-definition scent. I better get a discount on my dry cleaning if the theater ends up smelling like a literal tomb.
I recently watched Honey Bunch with my wife, and we thought it was great! Really visually stunning and you both put up fantastic performances.
But I think you can learn a lot about someone based on their horror tastes. What movies first got you into horror, and what movies have most influenced you creatively with your current work?
