I’m happy for her. I would have chosen OBAA over Sinners for this category, but she did a hell of a job.

Love this win. Sinners looked stunning, and she made history doing it.

Historic win. She is also the first black person and first Asian woman (and first person of Filipino descent) to win the category as well.

She deserved it. OBAA deserved it. Train Dreams deserved it. Marty Supreme Deserved it.
It was a *stacked* category. Hard to argue with any of them.

I’m glad Conan took the opportunity to announce it

She’s a badass well deserved. Actually this every one was in top form in this category

I would have been happy if Train Dreams had won, but this win also made me happy.

Probably one of the best use of IMAX film cameras there is. The whole cinematography is quite rich in Colors.
I would say Coogler’s video on film formats with Kodak to promote Sinners was really well made.

Not so fun fact: The first woman to be nominated for Best Cinematography at the Oscars was Rachel Morrison for *Mudbound* in 2017. That’s not even 10 years ago!
Actual fun fact: Rachel Morrison was the one who introduced Autumn Durald Arkapaw to Ryan Coogler, the director of *Sinners*!
Rachel and Ryan are longtime collaborators, having made the films *Fruitvale Station* and *Black Panther* together. When she wasn’t available to help him make *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever*, she recommended Autumn, her friend and colleague, to him instead.
Autumn and Ryan very successfully collaborated on *Wakanda Forever*, which was beautifully shot. That led to their collaboration on *Sinners*, which led to this ground-breaking win!
So when Autumn thanked Rachel in her acceptance speech, it was both because Rachel broke the nomination barrier AND because Rachel personally helped her land this project!

This one pissed me off the most. It was great Oscars and Sinners is a great film. Should’ve been best film in my opinion, but most of its “cinematography” was done in post. Train Dreams was almost all in camera. The academy got this one wrong. No offense to Ms. Arkapaw, but this was very wrong.

Good for her but Sinners was, outside of a few shots (which goes for almost practically every movie), nothing special in the cinematography-department. Underlit, strange focus in some parts that didn’t feel motivated, just overall nothing special.

Thanks for her incredible talent and hard work behind the camera. It’s a moment worth celebrating.

That was the only win that day which hadn’t the lowest betting odds

She’s the wife of cinematographer Adam Arkapaw who shot True Detective season 1, btw. Power couple right there.

Coogler running her kid down to her seat was adorable

I loved the visual representation of a glass ceiling being broken. Also very interesting that someone who works in a visual medium incorporated a visual component to her speech.

Fantastic win. I went back and forth between Sinners, OBAA, and Train Dreams on which one I thought should win; it was such a stacked year, even Marty Supreme looked fantastic. (though Bugonia should’ve been nominated over Frankenstein imo)

with this win, are there any mixed-gender categories left that still have not see a woman win?
