> The animated reboot is being developed through Fillion’s production banner Collision33…
Love it!! I can’t wait.

Details:
>Fillion spoke on a panel at the Washington, D.C. event and live taping of his “Once We Were Spacemen” podcast alongside co-stars Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, and Summer Glau, all of whom are expected to reprise their roles. Adam Baldwin, who played Jayne Cobb, will also lend his voice to the project.
>The animated reboot is being developed through Fillion’s production banner Collision33 in partnership with 20th Television Animation, which controls the underlying rights to the franchise.
>Married writing-producing team Marc Guggenheim (DC’s *Legends of Tomorrow*, *Arrow*) and Tara Butters (*Agent Carter,* *Reaper*) are attached to serve as showrunners, and a script has been completed. Joss Whedon, who created the original series, is not involved in the animated project.
>The proposed series is set in the timeline between the original 2002 television run and its 2005 feature film continuation, *Serenity,* expanding the universe while preserving continuity with the established lore. Early concept art has been developed in collaboration with the Oscar and Emmy-award-winning animation studio ShadowMachine, which can be found below. The fully assembled package is expected to be taken out to buyers shortly.
Damn… Buffy axed and Firefly announced… did not have this on my bingo card for 2026! So happy for the fans who’ve been begging for years.

Animated? Hmmm disappointing

I’ll take it, and it’s completely understandable why they’d go that direction but no live action revival is disappointing even it could never live up to expectations

Well, we may not be getting Buffy (right away, at least) but we will be getting Firefly. Decent consolation.

Hadn’t even thought of this but this has to be the best way to go about it. No concerns about anyone looking too old/different for their roles, and Alan can come back as a totally new unrelated character and be a part of it without having to resurrect Wash or whatever. Cool cool cool
Edit: nvm we get Wash

I wish it was a continuation of the movie instead of inbetween the show and the movie. It makes it kind of feel redundant. They should have just continued the show like if it was live action but just animated.

Well, it took 20 years, but it’s nice to get a proper follow-up to Firefly… Animated definitely seems like the best way to go as well, especially if they can honor some of the cast who have passed away since the show ended.

I’ll watch the shit out of that

Hell yeah!!!!! I love firefly so much

I know a lot of people wanted a live-action revival but hey, this is much better than a commercial which is the expectations some people online set.

I guess this was the 2nd best outcome of this whole thing.

Never considered this as an option but it’s fantastic, crazy that all the online hype about Firefly has actually amounted to something.

No Josh Whedon. Is he banned from Hollywood?

I have no qualms for an animated continuation of something so I guess its time to finally watch Firefly

Is that it? Animated? Disappointing. I was hoping they’d do a proper 20 years later thing.

Oh wow. I thought it was going to be some silly audible podcast or something. An actual animated series is cool.

A cartoon mid-quel is a hilarious disappointment to all the hype they’ve been trying to build.

RIP Ron Glass. Wish Shepard could be a part of this.

They remake so much random shit that no one wanted like Fresh Prince of Bell Air or The Burbs but the internet has been begging for this since it ended and the best they can do is an animated series.
Falkenmond79 on
That is actually a damn good idea. By now a reprisal with the original cast would have been nice, but not the same, sad to say. Animated version though is the next best thing for me. Looking forward to it! Hope it gets more than one season. 🤣

….well, I’m underwhelmed given how they’ve been hyping this up.

To be clear: in development is not the same as greenlit to series. It’s exciting news but temper your expectations.

Any chance Alan Tudyk will be in it?

I assumed the teasing of a Réunion was just going to be a Réunion at sdcc, didn’t see this coming.
To be honest firefly was so short lived that it’s probably less dependant on whedon’s writing style than buffy

A fairly good idea, even got Joss’s blessing to move forward with it.
That being said, it is in development. Doesn’t mean it will be picked up.

Well i’ll be watching. Nice.

When he released a teaser video last week involving the whole cast, I still didn’t think it was happening. Animation is a brilliant choice because one fear I had was everyone being 20 years older now.
Of course…. now that it’s greenlit, the next question becomes how good will this be without Whedon’s involvement? I guess there’s only one way to find out.
In either case, I’m so happy for the fans who’ve been begging for literally 2 decades.

Dammit. I was hoping for something real instead of yet more cartoon garbage for the little boys. They’ve already ruined movies with all their movies about cartoon books for a little boys so this just sucks. I want firefly back. I want it back. I hate that we’re not getting it back. I really need something to look forward to in life, and I was hoping this would be it. But it won’t be.
