I came up with this theory in the middle of the night so go easy on me
In the lunch scene from Jurassic Park (The best scene in the movie btw) our three leads Sadler, Grant, and Malcolm are all going in on Hammond’s decision to operate the park while having the slightest idea in what he’s doing.
While all three characters are essentially saying the same thing; the deliveries, both verbally and physically, perfectly display their traits.
Let’s start with Malcom- He’s the “rockstar”, the showboater. So it makes sense that he gets theatrical with his point, banging the table over and over to punctuate his argument and using his hands and face a lot. Finally of the three he uses the most exaggerated simile, a kid who has wielded his father’s gun. Even smiling while delivering the line. This is Malcom to a science.
Next we’ll discuss Sadler- She has a chip on her shoulder being the only woman in the group and so her point is very straight forward and stern. She speaks in a very calm demeanor, a trait she will maintain throughout the film until the T-Rex comes. We can see that Sadler means no disrespect towards Hammond and is instead focused on the betterment of the dinosaurs, perhaps foreshadowing her caring for the injured triceratops.
Finally we have Grant- Grant speaks in a softer tone almost whispery and makes a very basic but crucial point about dinosaurs and man being separated by years of evolution. Grant seems unsure of himself almost, definitely not scared as he explains his reasoning, but he’s not as confident as Sadler and is DEFINITELY not as confident as Malcolm. This comes full circle near the end when after escaping the T-Rex he tells Hammond very matter of factly that he will not be endorsing his park.
In conclusion, this scene is a master class in writing, acting, and directing. And Jurassic Park continues to get better and better the older I am watching it.

Love your analysis!
When I was about 6 years old and watched Jurassic Park I hated this scene. Thought it was so boring.
Now it’s my favorite scene of the whole movie.
Well, yeah? The actors deliver their lines the way the character would, with their mannerisms and demeanor. Did you expect them to act not like the characters would?
