ADÉLA when asked about Timothée Chalamet’s comments regarding the ballet and opera industry: “He’s not wrong. [Ballet] is kinda a dying art form. It’s sad. If anything, he’s just highlighted that. People should be going to the ballet more. Maybe this is publicity.”

I’m sure most agree and understand that these forms of art are struggling more, it’s Chalamet’s delivery that people disliked. Making generalized statements like “nobody cares about this” is objectively false and a bad way to convey what he meant. Also, the whole “I’ll lose 14 cents after this” sounded very arrogant and annoying to many people.
I do feel though that there is an overreaction to his statement, but I feel a lot of people are fed up with Chalamet after the whole “I work harder than anyone I know” and “being childless is miserable” shtick and those things combined are what caused people to react this way.

When was the last time you went to the ballet or the opera???? I have never been to the opera. I have been to my kids ballet. Ballet isn’t a big deal like film is!! Timothee is right. Everyone is freaking out but no one is going to the ballet or the opera!!!

She’s not wrong. Honestly, that was my whole interpretation of Chalamet’s words (although I do agree he could’ve said it with some tact). I feel like the whole thing is being blown way out of proportion.

Maybe if they were affordable, more people would go to them.

Can’t say ballet but operas are usually packed in my country. I think that maybe it is more valid for US rather than Europe. And ppl didn’t like Chalamet’s way of saying it. Side note: don’t generalize stuff.

Timothee’s comments inadvertently brought more attention to ballet and opera than any other recent events lol. I feel like it was a crappy opinion but he’s also been getting a lot of flack recently and this just added to it. If people like you , they will let things go. The comments from Jessie Buckley/Paul Mascal/ Doechii about cats is mostly forgotten now and we didn’t see multiple posts from other people calling them out… it’s because they are more liked than he is. Just my opinion.

Like, all the people bitching on here, how many have seen live ballet in the past year?

The logical take that any rational person has. Can’t believe the discourse that his innocuous and just plain out true comments have generated.

She’s not wrong and neither was Timothee, she just said it more tactfully than he did.

There are so many things to not like timothee chalamet for what the fuck is this discourse about ballet he’s not wrong

This controversy doesn’t deserve all the attention it’s getting 😂

I’ve never seen so many people pretend to care about opera and ballet before they had an opportunity to use it to shit on Timothy Chalomet.

Every time I go to the ballet (3-4 times per year) it’s absolutely packed. There are always families with small kids all dressed up for their day out, so I don’t think it’s dying as much as people say it is.

It’s immensely refreshing to see someone actually speaking authentically and intelligently about this.
She’s quite talented and has a distinct POV so I’m not surprised.

I missed the boat. His comments were what exactly? That they are dying forms of art? Is that controversial or wrong? I don’t know shit about either but I don’t know anyone who has gone to either of them ever. I would have guessed they, like lots of older forms of art are shrinking as artists adopt newer forms of art and media.
Like if we knew the amount of painters or sculptors every year, I wouldn’t be surprised that they went down as digital art forms were picked up.
I guess it makes sense for them to go up as well as population does? Idk. But as a non-ballet non-opera person, it doesn’t seem far fetched.

I feel like I can understand peoples kinder interpretation of what he was trying to say… I just don’t think the way he said it lines up, even when taking potential misspeaks into play. If he really meant what his defenders are saying, he is the least articulate person on the face of the planet.
The idea that he was actually promoting these things is even worse. Not a single person who watches that clip is gonna say: “You know what? He’s convinced me. I should really watch more and decide for myself.”

I haven’t been able to figure out how it ISNT a dying art form. Like it factually is. I don’t get this at all
