Kid Rock talking about the Olsen twins, who were 14-years-old at the time, on Saturday Night Live in 2001: “Why is every guy in America waiting for these chicks to turn 18? I mean, you know what I say: If there’s grass on the field, play ball!”

I distinctly remember seeing this as a young girl, younger than the twins and not fully understanding the “joke” but understanding that it meant grown men were attracted to them and thinking that must be a good thing.

There was so much messaging grooming us to believe that sexual attention from men with **no** lower age limit was great, flattering, funny, a sign we’re on the right track. Something we *needed* to just laugh off.

Like it is here, it was truly framed as young girls having only two options of how to react to this kind of attention: a yes would mean reciprocating and doing whatever the man wanted, and a no would mean just laughing it off while still having to be flattered, never objecting to it or shutting it down. This *is* rape culture.

That’s disgusting 🤢. And of course everyone let him get away with it because men could do whatever back then (they still can but at least they get called out more).

No wonder MAGA welcomed him in with open arms. Poor Mary-Kate and Ashley.

  4. “Locker room talk”

When I was 14 me and my friends didn’t talk about girls like that. This dude was what?…in his 30s at the time?? Fkn disgusting POS

  5. The fact he said this on SNL reminds me of the numerous, numerous times their stars have involved with underage girls. Horatio Sanz comes to mind, and it wasn’t exactly secret from all his pals.

EDIT — Just checked and Sanz was in the cast when this was said. No wonder the permission structure existed for this joke to be NATIONALLY BROADCAST.

  6. The lesson is don’t fuck little kids unless you want to spend the rest of your life serving the man then going to hell.

In the movie Cabin Fever, Bert is wearing a shirt with a date printed on it. That date was when the Olsen twins turn 18.

    Do better, people.

The world would be a better place if every fool who said shit like this experienced immediate and overwhelming consequences.

A lot of celebrities were saying terrible shit like this to child actors in the 90s.

Biggie smalls had a song where he threatened to rape raven symone.

John Stewart dropped a reference to a real life statutory rape case when interviewing a 17 year old Alicia Silverstone.

  10. And people wonder why the Olsen twins fucked off with their money and give people zero access to themselves.
