  1. Wondered if this was still in development and happy that there is finally some movement on it. Buried in the article is that Disney+ is also developing a Mech Cadets show based on the comic – I don’t think that ever got announced in the trades.

I still remember going to see the movie as a kid in theaters. Loved the dragons, hated the movie. Don’t recall if I read the books or not.

  3. This will either be an incredible adaptation where he gets to correct and foreshadow he never would’ve done on his first draft like Invincible… or the worst hero’s journey you’ve ever seen where they try to force in modern issues to a story that doesn’t need it.

Cautiously optimistic would be a good phrase here, Eragon has good bones

  4. Sounds okay. One showrunner has experience with smaller character driven shows, the other with larger-budget sci-fi and fantasy. Webb has experience with both and has some caché in Hollywood. Still hope this could be good.

  5. I am quite happy about all the fantasy adaptation news in the last week. The attempts since GOT have been quite lackluster to say the least. The Witcher is awful, ROP is a mess, WOT got cancelled right as it got good, Shadow and Bone completely fizzled out in s2, no one even remembers there was a His dark materials adaptation and HOD crashed and burned after s1.

We need adaptations from experienced writers and showrunners who know what they’re doing and also respect the source material, there will be changes of course. Also stop with the 8 episode nonsense, most of these need at least 10 to their stories well.

  6. Cautiously optimistic they’ll put actual effort into making this a quality series given the movie is widely considered the worst adaptation of a book ever

I’ll be very interested to see how this turns out, given the amount of CG that will be required. For the dragons, but also I’m sure a lot of the fantasy setting will be done in CG too. I recognize that the books aren’t exactly great, but I’ll always have a lot of nostalgia for them

  8. Todd Helbing was the creator of the CW Superman and Lois show, which is legitimately great and has a legit tearjerker of an ending. I might check the show out now, purely based off that.
