I think the reality is this franchise has quite a few hard edges that make a high budget adaptation require a lot of justification to an executive that needs to write the check.
Also slightly conspiracy brained: I think Cavill’s team just wanted to say something because at the time he was essentially disassociating from the two biggest things he’s been involved in. We haven’t heard *anything* from this project since it was announced.
