In Avatar (2009), Pandora orbits the gas giant Polyphemus, named in reference to the eponymous Cyclops, son of Poseidon in Homer’s Odyssey, due to its giant storm that resembles a giant single eye.

To the Na'vi of Pandora, Polyphemus is called Naranawn, which literally means "Great Eye". Besides him, two other gas giants orbit the star Alpha Centauri A, named Ulysses and Odyssey, also referencing Homer's epic poem. The neighboring solar system, Alpha Centauri B, features Polyphemus' mythological father, uncle and grandfather; Zeus, Poseidon and Cronus; also as giant gas planets.
