In Shutter Island (2010), the first night Andrew goes to sleep, he is in a bunk bed with Dr Sheehan on the top bunk. He has his first full vision of his wife, where she turns to ash. When he wakes up, he is in a single bed with just orderlies in the room. Dr Sheehan is gone, as is the bunk bed.

Not sure what this infers….my ideas
1. Dr Sheehan was never there, and neither was the bunk bed
2. He had an episode, and they moved him….but it seems like the same room (They mention they are sleeping in the orderlies quarters.
3. He didn’t have an episode, and they just drugged him for safety, causing the vision, and allowing Sheehan to get moved to safety, etc.
Sorry if someone has mentioned this, but I searched the internet and Reddit and couldn’t find this easter egg anywhere.
Just rewatching now and I was like….wait…..WHAT?
Nice spot, this is cool. Further shows his disconnection with reality well before we’re tipped off as the viewer!
But the windows are beside the top bunk in the first photo. Is there another frame of the third photo that shows the bed on the floor?
He definitely jumps down from the top bunk when he wakes up in the morning. Don’t think he was in a single bed at all I’m afraid.
This isn’t a thing. See how high the windows are? They show him getting off the bed a second later, and you know what he does? He drops down. Dr Sheehan was real the whole time, “Chuck” was his fake character in the roleplay. The movie can be a mindfuck, but this isn’t one of those parts.
The bunk bed is there. You see him jump down after his nightmare and most of his body disappears below, showing that he’s still in the bunk bed.
