I love her work and am happy she is going viral. She has a piece called “School Supplies” that is a gun made from pencils that gives me chills. She is a great follow on tiktok.
Very powerful and beautiful piece. I find it ironic that the same methods used to “discipline” slaves are being used on our children! And it’s not even in just black households. I know a good share of white folks who do the same.
Its such a complicated issue because there are times when that type of discipline is needed. But I also feel in my opinion it causes a division in the parent child relationship. Yes it may temporarily stop bad behavior, but it really develops into a “it’s me against my parents” mentality in children which may cause them to act out, and “win” against the parent.
