The trick? The “mirror” is actually a cut-away wall placed on a soundstage. On one side stands Tom Cruise as Ethan, while on the opposite side a body double mirrors his movements. Both are synchronized to make the shot look like a real reflection.
The camera glides between them seamlessly, making the illusion flawless. The result is a sleek piece of old-school filmmaking prowess that continues to wow viewers!

This does’t really qualify as a movie detail. But cool nonetheless.
You expect me to believe there is a double Rebeca Ferguson!? She is the one and only.
There is cgi when he originally puts the mask on, the transition is too smooth
Ah, yes. The old James Cameron / Terminator 2 move. Classic!
Terminator 2 also did this trick. I wonder how far back it goes.

Sucker Punch does a [great use of this](https://youtu.be/m_IemarLt5c). They have the body doubles, but make you think there is a mirror. They take it one step further and move the camera “through the mirror” but what they are actually doing is using it as a cutaway to slide in a real mirror so in the end there actually is a mirror we are looking at that the camera “went through”. All practical and very cool.
