Two cool details to check out in this powerful sequence are how, first, at around 2:16, we see a bombing-devastated landscape, something that's being seen by the character whose "detached perspective" is being discussed…and "slaughtered horses" are poetically suggested in the visuals –just before he sees the real dead-and-dying animals:

Notice the "impaled white unicorn-like head and front leg shape" that's on top of the separated section of broken overpass to the far right, the silhouetted overpass itself which suggests obliterated horse bodies and their spindly legs, and, on the second pole from the left, a top piece which looks quite like a severed horse head –complete with an "eye."

Then, at the end of the scene, we see the POV image of a closeup of an actual dead horse's eye, surrounded by flies –and we can see that the man saw himself reflected in the "dead lens" of this war corpse, a self-perception which breaks his internal "detachment camera."
