The Cinematography and the production design already looks on point

& that final shot with Renate is claustrophobic in the best way possible

  2. Found a way to incorporate the found footage angle, while not being the entire movie.

I think it has good potential. It’d be a good year for “YouTube to Film”.

If the filmmaker doesn’t cite *House of Leaves* as a/the key inspiration for this, I would be highly surprised.

  4. Well consider me signed up.

I will be very interested to see what kind of performance the freshman director got from Ejiofor and Reinsve. The setting and background has very little to look at so their performances will definitely be front and center.

Edit: there seems to be confusion in the comments about the source material. The freshman director, Kane Parsons, started out making the original Backroom found footage videos for YouTube 4 or 5 years ago. This evolved over time and he has a fully fleshed out story that has slowly been revealed. Personally, Found Footage 3 is my favorite but the voice actress in 2 does a fantastic job. Here is the original video.

Like the furniture being in the regular world and then entering the Backrooms being acknowledged as the original images were progress photos after the furniture store was closed and being converted to the RC racing track.

Stanley enjoyed the trailer, but thought something about it was too familiar.

So the aesthetic of the backrooms creepypasta, but roughly following the story of House of Leaves? I’m interested.

  8. Pitch perfect trailer, from the Backrooms environment to the characters.

    Parsons has it.

  9. I see inspiration from Ollie’s Bargain Outlet. It would only be right if someday the most random tie-in merchandise shows up at a real Ollie’s.

If Kane Parsons can actually make this a great horror movie, that will be such an exciting accomplishment. We’re talking about a 20 year old that is helming this production, and he’s been doing it for years before on YouTube. This material is his expertise in his short life.

  11. The settings look very good. Simple but scary and beautiful at the same time. Looking forward to it.

This looks so good. I can’t wait! Those Youtube videos are freaky as shit. I know this movie is gonna fuckin’ slap!

The idea of him being able to enter and exit a null zone at will is less horrifying but it does look like he gets stuck in there at some point. Probably works better as a narrative if it’s just not him walking around alone most of the film lol

Also so stoked to hear Still Life is featured in. It’s such a good track and the movie wouldn’t work without it.

  14. I’m glad that they didnt show any type of creature or anything, if they do include something like that it needs to be a surprise.

  15. I wonder if the idea for this movie was originally just going to be another in Kane’s YouTube series, but once A24 offered to make a movie with him he decided to reuse the idea for this

This looks really good! Kane is clearly very talented and it’s cool that so A24 has faith in him. His YouTube videos are worth a dive into; especially The Oldest View.

This also shows me that a House Of Leaves adaptation would work really well so I’m hoping this opens the door for that

  17. Somehow I missed that mortherfucking *Chiwetel Ejiofor* was going to be in the Backrooms movie. That combination would never have occurred to me.

  18. Aggressive-Produce54 on

All the other Backrooms protagonists seeing this guy go in and out are besides themselves right now lol.

  19. I’ll watch it as I’m a fan of Kanes youtube videos.

Not sure I am a fan of them being able to just enter and leave the backrooms so easily. I think the backrooms works better as if you slip into it it’s nearly inescapable as part of the horror.

The government experimentation being the exception as it was hinting that it’s what was causing all the cracks and causing people to fall into the backrooms in the first place.

Love how the kept the original lore and made it set in a furniture store. So pumped for this.

  21. As a huge fan of the web series from Kane, I am curious if they end up incorporating ASync. It looks like this may just be a separate story tangentially related to the Youtube series.

    Excited either way!

  22. Cool incorporation of House of Leaves with the apparent expeditions into the endless rooms angle

  23. This looks really good…the level of creepy is awesome and Im assuming it has a super downer ending.

  24. Kiltmanenator on

The real backrooms was a mattress store (in Wisconsin), so I’m glad they kept that.

  25. Never watched the Youtube shorts but this gives me huge House of Leaves vibes that I love.
