Yeah, I don’t blame her. It isn’t easy traveling with toddlers, let alone when they’re separated from you last-minute on seats that you paid good money for several months in advance.

Saying that we should never fly Alaska because she had a random incident is crazy tho

That’s shady as hell. Ignoring the fact that she’s rich AF and probably can afford to fly first class all the time, I can’t fathom why an airline would ever *purposely* overbook flights, let alone economy seats. TSA agents and air traffic control aren’t even getting paid right now yet Alaska Airlines will see themselves generating billions in revenue this year because of their fucked up tactics like this

Alaska is notorious for downgrading people on lower priced first class tickets so they can re-sell them for more.

I think she’s right. If you planned and paid for a particular service…you are owed that service. If the company can no longer deliver the service they should communicate the change with refund options.

Flying can be such a stressful event. The planning to fly with small children can be even more stressful. I’d be so pissed too if they did this to my family. It’s like tickets are booked and purchased in advance for nothing.

Do you think she stayed in first class while her children went to coach?

This happened to us one time. Arrived to check in and our first class seats on a direct long haul were “gone” but they could put us in coach and find us a flight with connections. I’m sure they would’ve screwed us somehow financially too, I doubt they were giving us a full refund in coach versus first class.
My husband worked some serious diplomatic acumen and got those seats back before take off.

Alaska airlines has first class? Learn something new every day. I thought they were just the airline you used when you don’t want to fly southwest

Truly the one place all people can feel equal is when you are at the mercy of an airline company. I do appreciate Brenda for putting Alaska Air on blast for this though

i have a question that may sound tone deaf but i’ve been flying for almost 30 years in various classes and i’m based between asia and europe and never heard that airlines can even do this. am i just annoyingly lucky or is this a specific US practice?
edit: additional infos and i mean various classes like i’ve flown on the cheapest, shadiest airlines that had a myriad of issues but overbooking had never been one of them. if you book a seat number you get a seat number.

The airline industry needs a complete overhaul. Some industries just aren’t compatible with private equity beancounter horseshit. Get them the fuck out of aviation, however you have to do it.

Splitting up the children that young is insane.
