Hey Reddit! I am Gregg Turkington and I am here to talk movies!
I play the delusional film buff of the same name (Gregg Turkington) opposite Tim Heidecker on the television show On Cinema at the Cinema in which, every episode, we decide what movies to watch and which to skip among other misadventures. We just finished our 16th Season and are preparing for this weekend's live 13th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special! While Tim says this might be the last one, you never know what Movie Magic will occur…
You can join the fun with an Oscar Ticket or as a HEI Network Annual Subscriber live this Sunday 3/15 at 4pm pst or rewatch it at your leisure: https://www.heinetwork.tv/the-last-oscar-special/
We have made the past 5 Seasons and past 5 Oscar Specials on the HEI Network, which is our completely subscriber-supported and artist-run independent streaming network for all things On Cinema at the Cinema. We are truly grateful for every Member of the On Cinema community.
After the Oscer, Tim and I are going on an On Cinema Live North America Tour! We have sold out several dates and are running low on others so get yours now if you want in-person Movie Expertise as well as Dekkar Expertise.
You can find Tour Tickets, dates and more here: https://www.heinetwork.tv/events/
My other film credits include Fremont, Entertainment, Ant-Man, and The Comedy and I have performed on various stages as Neil Hamburger.
Note: I will be answering these questions as this world's Gregg Turkington, not as the On Cinema universe's Gregg Turkington 🍿
AMA r/movies! Back tomorrow Friday 3/13 at 12 PM ET to answer questions.

Kind of a niche pull, but in the 6th/new oscar special there’s a young, kind of androgynous background character sitting next to Joe Estevez and wearing a VFA pin thats never addressed at all. I was wondering if you remembered at all what the vision was with that character haha
(unrelated but i like your Phil Ochs poster lol)
What is the best sandwich you have ever had?
What movie was Toni watching when Matt Newman got shot?
When have you ever come closest to breaking out into laughter during an Oscer special? Also, were there any movie ratings fake-Gregg gave that you agreed with?
It feels almost crazy to ask such an esteemed buff but what are your top 3 favourite films (other than the Hobbit trilogy)?
Hey Gregg,
A while back you said doing something to the effect that a live meetup for On Cinema would basically require every HEI subscriber to attend to break even. What changed between now and then that you are able to do the tour?
Bonus Question: Were you involved in/did you see DayDreamer and what were your thoughts on it? This was the movie Eric got from some random trucker that apparently brought Joe into the OCATC universe.
Hello! I want to start off by saying thank you for being open to an AMA! I have a few questions for you!
1. Who were some of your role models growing up?
2. What is some advice you would give someone following in your footsteps?
3. What does a typical “workday” look like?
4. What’s a movie you’d recommend?
How large is your record collection, and what’s your favorite record?
What’s your favorite DKR song?
Hi Gregg, owner and chief investigator of https://releasetheamatofiles.com/. Do you want to go on the record with any statement regarding the death of “G” Amato?
The truth will come out eventually, so you may as well just get it over with now.
Do you anticipate your OCATC character will ever take a dark turn? (I.e. Zip Code Rapist Gregg Turkington appears) Long time fan. Have been watching ever since season 2!
Nice to finally get some real film expertise on r/movies by inviting Gregg.
My question for Gregg: is the character Dale from Ant Man also a movie buff? If not, was it difficult trying to portray and understand a character that knew nothing about movies?
what’s been your favorite part of working on “on cinema at the cinema” after all these years?
One of my favorite things about On Cinema is how Gregg will kind of go into a sleep mode or something when he’s not on camera or the center of attention. Is this dissociation or something else? What’s the reason for his strange shutdown whenever he’s not beyond just how much he loves prioritizing movies
I cannot wait for the Oscar special and the live shows! Will there be any special guests for the live shows? Such as Joe Estevez, Mark, or Ax and Manuel?
Gregg, how disappointed are you that Jonathan Winters never received a posthumous award for his work in Smurfs 2?
Hey Neil!
Is there any reason you can think of why Courtney Love won’t be having any cranberry sauce with her Christmas dinner this year?
Why did that Orkin guy lie about there being rats in movie house?
Favourite period piece besides The Hobbit?
Gregg, can you reach out to Michael Malice to appear on his podcast “YOUR WELCOME”? The guy is a superfan of Neil Hamburger and it would be fun.
Hey Gregg!
Are you excited for the sequel to *Him* that’s coming out? It called *Reminders Of Him* and it’s starring the same actor but looks like it’s gone in a different direction as far as genre goes. What would you like the third installment to be titled?
Major Gregghead here. As the ultimate film expert, what more can you tell us about the 1977 classic “Oh, God!”?
Gregg, I plan on making pizza for the Oscar special. What kind of pie would Oscer himself like?
hello Gregg I am thankful for all you are doing with on cinema and for keeping the show going. i have a ticket to see the oscer special at the MOVIES as God intended and am excited to see you live in Saint Louis where you can find many a popcorn classic at the goodwill. I recently found a copy of Slappy and the Stinkers (1998, 72 minutes). I hope you have seen this Popcorn Classic!
EDIT: oh I just realized this is going to be meta! and that this is not the post. leaving my original question here for posterity while I think of good and real questions to ask
my question is about the hollywood smash hit Final Conclusion (2025, 18 min). Do you believe that the events of this film are accurate to the events as they unfolded in real life? or do you think it’s more like Mister America (who cares year and runtime it’s barely a movie) where the events were highly doctored to make people look bad. word on the VHS trading forums and On Cinema AOL chatrooms are saying that it’s actually Newman Richard Amato who may responsible for the death of Matt Neuman. your thoughts?
Something I’ve always wondered: was Larry Turman actually in on the joke? Or was he genuinely astounded by how stupid your character is?
