Conan O’brien on why he doesnt find Trump jokes/parodies funny: “If a magazine has as it’s cover “Elvis still alive, marries alien and they have a baby thats a three speed blender” thats what the real magazine is coming out with, you cant do a comedic take on that”

This is a good take and it’s hitting on why every Trump impression or parody ultimately becomes sane-washing. He’s so insane and evil that there isn’t really a way to escalate the joke, you’re just repeating what he said (often in a more comprehensible way) or having him talk about pointless, silly things that make him out to be a harmless old kook

You can satire him
But just having an impersonation of him with the hand movements, hat and voice feels lazy

The funniest Trump jokes are usually done by none comedians. Just random jokes online

He’s right. Comedy needs contrast-

I think the point here is not only that Trump is outlandish and outrageous, it’s that the audience for these jokes already realize this.
You can’t do satire when the very thing you are trying to expose and make fun of has already been exposed by others and by himself to death.
Everyone already gets the joke. Trump himself is the comedy.

Agreed, which is why I think the way South Park has been handling it is brilliant.
1st term- it’s not Trump, it’s Garrison being typically insane.
2nd term- it’s not Trump, it’s Saddam Hussein back from Hell inside Trump’s body

I think SNL and others’ problem is also that, if they REALLY wanted to satirize and savagely “take him down,” they’d risk payback from Trump’s SCC or DOJ or all the other personal attack-dogs he has, and they’re too scared to risk that. So they’re trying to tiptoe the safe line, which results in these mild, ineffectual impressions. We are literally now in an authoritarian scenario, where many of Trump’s potential critics have been neutered or scared into silence.

Conan knows his US History and knows comedy. Too many comedians pursue “clap-ter” instead of an actual joke when it comes to the POS

Love Conan and completely agree, have thought this since he was running for election the first time. It’s unfunny at best and massively harmful at worst.
