    >The wait is almost over! Mortal Kombat II arrives in theaters and IMAX May 8. #MortalKombatMovie #FilmedForIMAX

    >From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II. This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.

    Oof. This looks pretty bad.

Kind of expected Johnny Cage to be the focus. But man does Karl Urban just look so out of place.

Cool to see other characters like Jade and Noob.

But I just can’t bring myself to watch what looks like a poorly made fan film.

  3. Didn’t they spend all this time in the first movie developing a random person with no ties to the original roster into the lead character? Where is he?

  4. Not interested.

They fucked up the first one with no Cage for the dumbest reasons imaginable. Now, they fucked it up by casting the character badly.

Guess I’ll be a voice of positivity in here. This trailer clearly didn’t show much. Visually I like the backgrounds for a lot of the “stages.”. I think this looks way better than Street Fighter.

Honestly, I think it looks fun.

Probably a “wait for streaming” kind of release for me, though.

  7. The fact that they seem to be unable to beat the original Mortal Kombat movie from the ’90s is kind of sad at this point. Technically the OG movie isn’t great but it’s a really fun B Movie that at least seemed to get some of the spirit of the games even if a lot of details were a bit off. It’s looking like not even Karl Urban can save these newer movies.

That said if they viciously kill Cole early on then at least this movie will be better than the one right before it, and I could see it possibly beating Annihilation which is a very low bar but not one the last movie passed in my opinion.

I like Karl Urban but he’s the wrong guy for this. Should have got Scott Adkins or something in there instead.

Some of it looks pretty schlocky, but I’m not so made of stone that I can’t appreciate Shao Kahn towering over people and doing fatalities with a giant hammer

    “You suck!”

It’s funny people saying it looks bad since the whole reason it got pushed back was because it was getting “good reviews” in test screenings so they wanted to make more money 😂

I really, really, really don’t understand why they kept trying to make Johnny Cage the main character.

For fucks sake, use Liu Kang + Kung Lao. Or Sonya + Jax.

  12. 😬 Yeesh…. that certainly looks like something.

I didn’t like the first reboot movie too much, but this is looking a lot more ‘fantasy’ then I would have maybe wanted. The Grandiose epic fantasy rendition OST isn’t selling it either.

I really like Mortal Kombat, the games are usually super fun. I enjoy the first movie especially too, and that was a pretty simple and fun movie. This looks like a mess.

Holy shit do I love this. Karl Urban AND Mortal Kombat?! I hadn’t heard they were making a second one (very much enjoyed the first), but Urban is my favorite actor because I met him at a con once and he was awesome. Then combine that with one of my favorite fighters of my childhood? Beyond sold.

  14. People really watched this trailer and thought it looks bad??

This looks exactly like what a MK movie should look like!

  15. The previous Mortal Kombat was almost good.

Outside of the main character sucking big time, I thought the fight scenes were awfully generic. Which is a detriment for a movie about fighting IMO.

Can’t really tell by the trailer if action in the sequel is better or not.

  16. The fights look mean, the pacing feels faster, and I love that it is not ashamed to be fun and cheesy.

If the story stays simple and the action stays this good, I am in.

  17. Baraka isn’t wearing a blouse. Did they even look at the fucking games? Seriously. He has three defining characteristics, hes Ugly, Hes got arm blades, and he cross dresses.

  18. Karl Urban is simultaneously

    1. 20 years too old to play Johnny Cage, and…
    2. Likely the best thing about this movie by far (well, except for maybe Hiroyuki Sanada)

  19. lWishItWastheWeekend on

Not hiring the director who did The Raid movies to helm these movies is one of the biggest blunders I’ve ever seen. That dude was born to do a live action Mortal Kombat.

  20. Yeah, this hits my “sneak in a beer or two to the theaters” watchability ranking. Excited to see this.

  21. this is looking more like a real Mortal Kombat 1 with the last movie being a “watch if you want” prologue
