I love her. I love rewatching videos from this kind of Oscar moments (it’s on the Academy’s YouTube page) and that one is a favorite of mine, especially because of Ed Harris and Amy looking so determined to simply not stand up for someone as Kazan. Just like Wells said, he might’ve been a good director, but he was a traitor, too.

The consistency of their reaction not even being planned. That kind of alignment and shared values certainly make sense with their long marriage. I love her getting renewed attention and acclaim for Weapons.

So few people have the courage of their convictions, I really admire this. I would bet a lot of people just didn’t know what the issue was (I know it was widely reported at the time but people don’t pay attention, and it had happened a long time ago), and probably looked it up based exclusively on seeing that photo of Amy and Ed refusing to stand up. That’s good, sometimes protest helps to educate and inform.

Amy is such a gem. She came to see a play I wrote and produced. Ed came along. They got there late due to the parade traffic earlier in the day, we hadn’t started but we were oversold. There was only one proper theatre seat left and since it was Ed Harris I was told after the fact someone offered him their seat. Ed politely refused and then just took a foldable plastic chair and sat next to Amy who got a proper seat.
After the show Amy came up to me, she had been laughing hard and I was so flattered, we had a brief conversation and she gave me some real kudos. The fact that Amy would come out to an indie theatre show on a Saturday, pay full price for the ticket at the door, and do all that with the seating told me so much about her and Ed’s character. She has such a sweet aura about her, but you can tell she has a fire too. Just super classy, kind but most importantly insightful.

Was it because he snitched on 8 former colleagues to the House Un-American Activities Committee or something else?

My understanding and I think this is accurate is Kazan just ratted out 7 or 8 names that were already on the black list.

I was at an event a zillion years ago (for a pro-choice organization she was on the board of) and ran into her at the bar. I was so drunk and she was so sweet and cool. to this day one of my friends asks how my “best friend Amy” is doing. I was mortified but it’s my favorite celebrity encounter ever.
^(she was pretty drunk too but not falling over like me)

If snitches didn’t get stitches, they should at least not get… standing ovations.

Kazan was a traitor. Shame on anyone who celebrates him and his work.
