Australia’s Glitch Productions today announced full-series greenlight for Knights of Guinevere, the studio’s first 2D animation, following September’s pilot release. Amassing over 11.9 million views in first week, the adult animated project is one of Glitch Productions’ strongest debut outings, exceeding viral pilot Murder Drones by +304% in respective launch-week viewership. The show’s momentum was in part fueled by the pedigree of its creators, The Owl House alums Dana Terrace, John Bailey Owen and Zach Marcus.

Since release, the Knights of Guinevere pilot has accumulated a cult-following amongst fans of sci-fi thriller and independent animation, with over 1.6 million likes99.4% positive sentiment and a cumulative watch-time of over 2.9 million hours. Audience-revered and critically-acclaimed, the show has received notable buzz across major publications including Polygon, A.V Club, Gizmodo, ComicBook, GeekTyrant, Animation Magazine and more, with critics noting commendations of surreal sci-fi, emotionally-resonant and striking visuals, winning storytelling, character depth and charm.

Synopsis: Knights of Guinevere is a sci-fi psychological thriller set on Park Planet, a planet-wide amusement park floating above the sky whose crown jewel is Princess Guinevere, an android mascot created by the park’s team of space engineers, designed in countless forms and celebrated as the wonder and beauty of the park. Yet behind the spectacle lies a troubling and dark story tied to the park’s owners. Floating high above the surface, the park casts a shadow over the scrappy, rustic towns below, one of which, M7, becomes home to our story.

We meet Andi, a junior space engineer working for park planet, and Frankie, a chipper merch-factory worker who scavenges scrap alongside Sparky, aboard their worn-down fishing boat. Their lives shift dramatically when Frankie discovers an abandoned Guinevere android, which she hopes will lift her out of her dead-end work and into a future as an engineer for the park. Reluctantly aided by Andi, the two infiltrate the park’s secret labs to restore the android, unaware of the horrors waiting for them.

I’m so glad that the success of Digital Circus (and the frankly insane amount of merchandise they’re pushing) means they can keep making these huge passion projects happen.
