  1. networks can’t even be bothered to stream sports games in 1080p at a decent enough bitrate.

The absolute size of 8K CGI assets is a huge hurdle to overcome in exchange for sincerely diminishing returns.

  3. It might not be 8K today. It’ll probably be 8K when they figure out how to make it cheaper and the media we’re interacting with is able to be output at that resolution… But yeah trying to do that today is hilarious. Almost nothing supports the resolution lol

  4. Why would I need 8k tv when there is no 8k content to be consumed on it? I’m still on a 1080p tv!

  5. I still watch and play almost everything in 1080p because it’s more reliable and I don’t really care enough to risk performance issues or stream buffering. 8k seems so unnecessary.

When do they take another stab at 3D? lol

Or do they pivot to TVs with new sound technology

  7. Maybe because most 4K streaming is like 1/4 the bitrate of a 4K bluray and isn’t likely to improve any time soon.

  8. There is zero need for 8k in broadcast. At normal viewing distances the difference between 1080p and 4k is *barely* detectable. 8k is basically the gold plated diamond encrusted HDMI cable of screen resolution.

  9. It probably is the future at some point but right now the rest of technology isn’t there yet.
