This isn’t about cheating or romance rumors, but more about how celebrity PR is being framed lately.

During promo for their new film, Margot Robbie has spoken a lot about how emotionally intense the process was and how she “couldn’t have done the film” without Jacob Elordi, while he seems much more reserved in comparison. Add in the matching rings with inscriptions, and the whole thing starts to feel like deliberately manufactured intimacy for press rather than a natural dynamic.

I’m not accusing anyone of crossing boundaries.. just wondering if anyone else feels like modern press tours lean heavily into forced closeness to sell chemistry, even when it comes off a bit uncomfortable to watch.

Curious how others read it.

  1. It’s odd, and while I understand the spouses of actors need to be ok with kissing/sex scenes/on screen intimacy, this would cross a line for me.

  2. I think they’re trying to cash in on that weird, co-dependant vibe Ari and Cynthia had during the wicked press tour since it had people talking and speculating. The difference is, Wicked did seem like an intense shoot because of the music aspects?

    I think is a whole promo move. The movie is about passion and looks very sexually intense from the trailer so they just want to push this to promote the movie. Also margot outfits are very pushing the style of the movie. Every single detail is important to promote the movie, even the way the two actors talk to each other.

    They have zero chemistry so it’s odd to me, like they’re trying too hard. The whole thing about WH being an intense romance is a bit cringe anyways.

    I think people are very weird about PR tours. I thought people were weird about Ariana and Cynthia.

    It’s just two people being two people that might be weird to you but they aren’t hurting anyone 🤷‍♀️

    My take is: people fall for this type of PR?? Who is the target? It feels so unnecessary.

  7. YoghurtReal1375 on

    It’s PR so that people talk about whether Margot and Jacob had a fling rather than the whitewashing of Heathcliff.

    It’s leaning into the messy controversialness that Wicked and Saltburn and that Sydney Sweeney Glen Powell (I forgor) film had. More publicity and less people talking about the whitewashing of Heathcliff

  9. At the end of the day it’s all about the production making as much money as possible. That’s it. I’m sure the actors are trained how to behave on press tours in such a way that drums up attention and engagement which will then, you guessed it… make more people buy tickets to see the movie.

  10. That’s literally the point, though. This is so much unearned PR, that the movie’s marketing team is breaking out the champagne

    Feels so weird to me. She’s married… like who is falling for this? And Jacob Elordi does not seem very into her.

    This kind of pr is boring and overdone, it just annoys me, it doesn’t make me want to watch

  13. To your point, agree completely.

    Particularly with Withering Heights, people keep putting the blame on Margot for the lack of chemistry, but I think it’s Jacob. He perpetually has a muted, uninterested expression on his face. You can’t create romance rumors with someone who looks like he doesn’t care about anything.

  14. Oddly, tiresomely contrived….but for me all the intensity falls flat. Ooooh matching pinky rings, ooooh hand holding and weird quotes about each other….

    Like, okay. Thank you for this bland meal. I will not think about it again.

    Seems like the new PR and press “thing” in recent years to really hype up how intimate (even if not sexual) costars get on projects:

    * *Anyone But You*
    * *Wicked* & *Wicked For Good*
    * *The Naked Gun*

    And now *Wuthering Heights*.

    Sure, hundreds of other films have been released in that time but I feel like there’s a specific strategy getting deployed on some of these that takes things further to try and emotionally manipulate audiences. Like a new spin on old tactics.

    Just me or has there been some new weirdness publicists are pushing and entertainment coverage is focusing on?

  16. the more obnoxious the PR tour, the less I wanna see the film and the less I think of the actors

  17. Dry-Astronaut4522 on

    These actors have to try so hard now to promote these movies. It’s like the more they push the more I don’t care it’s cringe and creepy

    I’m over it.

    I used to love Margot Robbie, but I’ve really soured on her after all the press for this movie. It seems deeply disrespectful to her husband, and seems incredibly wasteful with all the gowns and extras.

    I don’t think anyone asked for this or needed it.

    It’s doing exactly what it’s planned to do. Are you talking about it? Job complete.

    That already makes me wonder if the movie won’t be weak, same thing happened with Glen and Sidney, it’s too focused on them and not enough on the movie.

  21. This is absolutely PR. Following the Wicked part 1 playbook plus that movie with Florence Pugh and whatever his name is where all they talked about was how intense it is and all of the PDA for the Jurassic World promo.

  22. Makes me actively not want to see the movie. Same thing happened with the Wicked movies for me.

    Weird and the sign of shitty actors who rely on PR tactics to market their film. I just picture a marketing and strategy meeting about this type of crap and can’t believe any self respecting professional actor, especially one who’s married, would agree to it. Embarrassing for all involved.
