I would rather he start fresh. We need to reimagine TV. Everything is dark and gritty. We have no life or happiness in our shows these days

  2. I’d rather he take notes from The Stormlight Archive

Edit because apparently I need to spell this out: this is a joke you dorks, calm down

It would be pretty weird if someone was adapting a work of fantasy and wasn’t looking towards examples where other fantasy adaptations were successful.

I really can’t imagine fitting books these long into a single season each, but I’m sure people who know better than me are involved.

“You guys, we need to do everything in pitch black, it’s clearly what audiences crave”

  5. I’m still very skeptical about him writing the screenplays, they’re VERY different beasts from books. It worked for Martin because he worked in TV for many years and is pretty great at both mediums. I also hope Sanderson opens a writers room and doesn’t try to do it all himself.

  6. Like it or not, Cosmere has the potential to be the next big fantasy IP that reaches the general audience. It’s good that he is taking notes from the previous two.

I mean the first part of SA is already done so it’s not like he needs the story to be reworked or needs to tell anyone the ending. It’s already in print. Once he gets to era 2 of the books though, that’ll be when things start to get rocky because they won’t be finished for a while.

  8. This is such a challenging adaptation I’m nervous for him. I hope it’ll stick the landing

  9. The lesson he probably should have learned was to not sell the rights to his epic book series before it’s finished.

  10. Not really relevant but one time they brought some fantasy author to my high school for a QnA and I asked him “If your book got reworked into live action, would you rather it be a Movie or a TV series”. and he deadass looked at me and said “I mean I don’t direct so I don’t know how I’d make it into a tv show or a movie.”

    No shit man 😭

  11. Wheel of Time. The Witcher. End of GOT. HOTD. All those turned to shit. Hopefully they find writers that respect the source material and don’t try to spin their own version of the story.

  12. I started reading those books and thought they were pretty bad, and everytime I see someone criticize this author, the fans say characters and writing are not his strong suit it’s about “worldbuilding and magic systems”. Obviously art is subjective and just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad but I’m genuinely curious how a book that’s supposedly not about writing or the story can be made into good tv

  13. Honestly this series scares me.

I love Sandersons novels but his slow burn to beautiful climax story style is not for everyone and the amount of necessary plot events in these novels are immense. At some level even the shorter early books probably need at least 1.5 seasons, with the later books needing even more, to properly tell the story.

At that rate Stormlight arc 1 will need like 10+ season to tell its story. 10 seasons for a progressive story show just doesn’t happen anymore.
